New Orleans Pelicans tickets - 2014-15 preview

The Big Easy isn’t going to be an easy win this year. The New Orleans Pelicans have one of the best young big men in the game, and a lineup full of talent. Look for them to continue making strides in a tough Western Conference.

No other team in the league has more young talent than New Orleans. Anthony Davis is the centerpiece of course. The emerging superstar played for Team USA this year in the FIBA World Cup and showed everyone that he’s one of the top players in the world. He is without rival as a rim protector, and his offensive game continues to grow and expand. Last year he added a 12-footer to his arsenal, making opposing scouts wonder what’s next for the gifted big man.

But joining Davis is a cadre of young ballers, all poised to turn the Pelicans into contenders. Jrue Holiday, Eric Gordon, Tyreke Evans, Ryan Anderson, and the newly signed free agent Omer Asik all bring something different to the court. Holiday and Gordon can create. Evans and Anderson can fill it up. And Asik provides some protection for Davis in the middle. His signing allows Davis move over to power forward, a more natural position for his skillset. The team also bolstered its frontline through the draft, selecting Patric Young from the Florida Gators. The bruising big man comes with an NBA-ready body.

The only remaining challenge is assembling all these talents into a team. Fortunately, Pelicans head coach Monty Williams has been learning from the best this summer. Williams was a member of the Team USA staff, led by Duke coaching legend Mike Krzyzewski. Watching Coach K turn his group of NBA All-Stars into a cohesive team is perfect on-the-job training for Williams’ task this year.

Visitors to the Smoothie King Center will not find it very hospitable this season. The Pelicans are looking to punch their ticket to the playoffs, and Davis and company have all the firepower needed to make it happen.

2014 New Orleans Pelicans

New Orleans Pelicans tickets are red hot as the former Hornets have been reborn as the Pelicans, looking to become a force to be reckoned with in the NBA’s Western Conference. The New Orleans Pelicans will square off against the Southwest Division rival Memphis Grizzlies, Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks and defending Western Conference champion San Antonio Spurs. New Orleans Pelicans tickets also mean you’ll have the opportunity to see the league’s biggest names, like LeBron James and Dwyane Wade of the two-time defending champion Miami Heat, Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers, Carmelo Anthony of the New York Knicks and so many more. A visit to the New Orleans Arena means you’ll be front and center as a new era in New Orleans basketball is born, while the Pelicans aim to establish themselves as a Southwest Division powerhouse.

The New Orleans Pelicans’ roster features three of their top five leading scorers from a year ago in Eric Gordon, Ryan Anderson and Anthony Davis and helping to ring in the inaugural season in Pelicans’ history are two key newcomers in point guard Jrue Holiday and swingman Tyreke Evans, a former Rookie of the Year.

The team is named after New Orleans’ state bird, the brown pelican and the inaugural logo and color scheme are a nod to colors frequently seen throughout the area.

After 14 seasons in Charlotte as the Hornets, the franchise relocated at the start of the 2002-03 season and took up residence at the New Orleans Arena. Since moving to New Orleans, the team has qualified for the playoffs five times, getting as far as the Western Conference Semifinals in 2008 before falling to the defending champion Spurs in seven games.
