OKC City Thunder ticket preview

Oklahoma City Thunder fans are wondering if this is going to be their year. The Heat are Lebronless. Russell Westbrook is finally healthy. And the Spurs can’t possibly recreate their magic from last postseason. It may just be the Thunder’s turn to take the title.

After losing to the Heat two years ago in the Finals, surviving the loss of Westbrook (twice), and racking up an MVP trophy for Kevin Durant, Oklahoma City looked poised for another run at the title in 2014. But they ran into a buzz saw in the San Antonio Spurs. The Thunder gave the Spurs a better series than Miami ended up giving them in the Finals, but that didn’t take the sting away. It was another disappointing end to a season for Oklahoma City.

But there were some great takeaways from last year. Not the least of which is the killer instinct that Durant developed in Westbrook's absence last year. The Slim Reaper went on a tear in January, averaging nearly 40 points a game over a 12-game stretch. Durant wrapped up the MVP discussion with this performance, and took another step towards being one of the top two players in the world.

But Durant wasn’t the only member of the Thunder to make large strides last season. Serge Ibaka posted career highs last year, and proved to be a reliable third option to Durant and Westbrook. And when Ibaka went down in the playoffs, reserve center Steven Adams burst onto the scene. The New Zealander showed a great deal on promise, blocking everything in sight, and serving as an impressive stand-in for Ibaka defensively.

Now the Thunder turn their attention to another run at the title. Durant and Westbrook form the most dynamic duo in the league. Ibaka is healthy, and his offensive prowess seems to get better each year. It seems like things may finally be lining up in OKC.

Barring injuries, a miraculous turnaround in Cleveland, or a repeat performance by the Spurs, this could be the year that Chesapeake Energy Arena celebrates its first NBA championship.

The Thunder were born of the former Seattle SuperSonics, a proud franchise that captured the 1979 NBA Championship over the Washington Bullets. After relocating to Oklahoma City following the 2007-08 season, the Thunder missed the playoffs in Year 1 for the rebranded franchise but have qualified in all four seasons since, coming up just short of a championship in 2012, falling to the Heat in five games in the NBA Finals.

Durant and Westbrook are multiple-time NBA All-Stars, while Ibaka has been named to the NBA’s All-Defensive First Team two years running. Head coach Scott Brooks was the 2010 NBA Coach of the Year and has the Thunder primed for another long playoff run.
