The Rolling Stones first gained fame in the early 1960's and started gaining popularity in Great Britain before their great American success. The Stones were very different than other British Rock groups at the time, their sound was not a completely polished pop one, but a more colorful, raw and hard rocking/blues sound that transcended the other bands around them. Rather than copying off The Beatles or Yardbirds, the Rolling Stones were more apt to take cues from blues legends like Muddy Waters. And their front man, Mick Jagger didn't have a smooth pop music voice, but a unique rock voice tailored for the hard rocking Rolling Stones tracks. After several early hits including the chart topping hit, Satisfaction, The Stones as their fans and critics alike call them kept churning out hits. The Stones brought it in a big way with songs like Mother's Little Helper, Time is on my Side, and later Brown Sugar, Start Me Up, You Can't Always Get What You Want, and the list goes on and on...The Rolling Stones even have two huge box sets, one called Forty Licks that has 40 of their greatest hits on a 2-CD set, and now GRRR! both of which don't have all of their hits on them! The Rolling Stones not only broke the pop/rock barriers of their time, but have been able to stay on top throughout the last 4 decades and with 2005's release, "A Bigger Bang", and 2012's "GRRR!", they have proven that old rockers can still make great albums.
