Flyers tickets have always given the hometown fans something to believe in, especially when Philadelphia played host to the cross-state rival Pittsburgh Penguins; in fact, the two teams were poised to meet in the Eastern Conference semifinals last year, but a Game 7 win by the New York Rangers over the Flyers put that matchup on ice for another postseason.
Philadelphia is counting on another strong season from perennial All Star Giroux, as well as follow-up performances from Jakub Voracek and Wayne Simmonds, who both set career highs in points last year. The Flyers brought in Michael Del Zotto and Nick Schultz this offseason to bolster the blue line, which has been an area of concern for the team recently. Former New York Islanders Mark Streit and Andrew MacDonald both found homes in Philadelphia, but suspect defensive play from both has often outweighed their offensive production. The additions of Del Zotto and Schultz should bring stability to the middle defensive pairing in the lineup.
Wells Fargo Center seats 20,397 at maximum capacity, and the front office is hoping to parlay their free-agent acquisitions into ticket sales in 2014-15. And even if the defense isn’t as stalwart as the coaching staff would hope, Giroux, Voracek, Simmons, and others are perfectly capable of outscoring their opponents most nights. If the Flyers can avoid a slow start to the year, and the offense hits the ground running, Philadelphia could make some noise in the Metropolitan Division.

Despite a disappointing start to the season, the Philadelphia Flyers currently sit at 25-22-6
through this point in the year as we are about to break for the Winter Olympics. The Flyers are currently
tied for fourth place in the Metropolitan Division with the Columbus Blue Jackets with 56 points. The
Flyers have righted the ship since their poor start and are at least in a position to make the postseason
this year.
The Flyers have been led by Claude Giroux who, aside from being the Flyers captain, leads
the team in points scored this season with 47, 15 of them coming on goals and a whopping 32 assists.
Philadelphia also relies heavily on Wayne Simmonds and Jakub Voracek for offense who have scored 17
and 14 goals respectively.
The Flyers have hopes of making the playoffs, but will need to jump over the Detroit Red Wings
and Columbus Blue Jackets in order to do so. Presently, Philadelphia is just a single point behind the
Detroit Red Wings for the final spot in the playoff standings with 30 games left in the season. There’s
several teams vying for the final few spots in the Eastern Conference, including the rival New York
rangers and New Jersey Devils, so it should be an entertaining and stressful stretch run.
Of those 30 remaining games, the Flyers have 18 of which at home, for which the average price
for Flyers tickets is currently $114. The cheapest home game left on the Philadelphia Flyers schedule is
their February 6th game against the Colorado Avalanche which is averaging $80 and a get-in of $24. On
the other end of the spectrum, the Flyers March 15th battle with instate rival the Pittsburgh Penguins is
their highest priced game left averaging $228 with a get-in price of $72.
12/09: The Flyers will finish their six-game road trip this Wednesday against Chicago, then return home to the Wells Fargo Center Thursday night to face the Canadiens. Following that game, they’ll have two home and homes against the Washington Capitals and Columbus Blue Jackets. Despite Philadelphia’s 1-7 start, they are only a few points out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the East. Since that start, they’ve gone 13-7-2 and have several impressive victories, including beating the Penguins on the road, as well as defeating the Red Wings 6-3 less than a week ago. If they can keep up this play through the end of the 2013 year, there’s a chance they will enter the Olympic break in a playoff spot.
10-17-2013: The Philadelphia Flyers have begun a lackluster 1-5 through a little less than two weeks into the 2013-14 regular season. New head coach Craig Berube was able to win his debut against Florida on October 8th, but the Flyers went 0-2 afterwards and will have a difficult stretch over the remainder of October with games against Vancouver, Pittsburgh, NY Rangers, NY Islanders, and Anaheim. Luckily, all games other than against the Islanders will be at the Wells Fargo Center. The Flyers have only scored eight goals all season so the offense will need to pick up over these next few games.
The 2013-14 Philadelphia Flyers aren’t short on storylines heading into the season, making them one of the NHL’s more interesting clubs from a general fan perspective. Offense…from the blue line?
Philadelphia brought in former New York Islanders defenseman Mark Streit in an attempt to increase scoring from the defense in 2013-14. Streit’s power play quarterbacking ability is among the best in the NHL, although a four-year, $21 million contract for a 35-year-old blueliner might not prove to be the most financially savvy move made by the Flyers’ front office. Time will tell if Streit can match his offensive production from past seasons.

Giroux is consistently ranked among the league’s top forwards, and with good reason. The sixth-year centerman averaged a point per game in last year’s truncated season, and owns a career 0.87 regular-season point-per-game average. Not only will he likely be the team’s top point scorer this season, but he’ll continue to be the Flyers’ best scorer well into the future; Giroux is signed with Philadelphia through the 2019-20 season, meaning the fans won’t have to worry about locking up their star player long-term. It’s already done.
Ilya Bryzgalov doing (and saying) Ilya Bryzgalov things
This would be no. 1 on the list of reasons to watch the Flyers this season…if the enigmatic—and sometimes existential—netminder was still a member of the team. As it stands, a Philadelphia Flyers ticket no longer entitles the holder to what amounts to performance art from Bryzgalov—both on and off the ice—although the cost of the ticket does allow the user to feel like part of the Flyers organization. Philadelphia Flyers Preview 2012-2013 NHL season
What many hoped would be an eventful NHL off-season for our faithful Orange & Black has instead left many of us with many un-answered questions and a defenseless team. Will there even be a season with the possibility of a lockout? What is the future of our Captain Chris Pronger and our Defense? Was Bryzgalov worth giving up Carter & Richards in the 2011 off-season? The possibility of the lockout is looking more and more prominent with no word on a new CBA & both sides far apart on their negotiations. Per Gary Bettman the league owners are refusing to play another season under the current CBA, which expires on September 15th. Many issues still remain with negotiations but the issues that are causing the widest gap are system related proposals and economic proposals. Hockey fans around the world sit & wait to see if both sides come together on an agreement or October starts without our beloved hockey.
This off-season we saw many BIG names hit the Free Agency market come July 1st, none now donning Orange & Black and a summer Paul Holmgrem would like to forget. Before the July 1st Free-Agency frenzy, Holmgren shipped former number #2 draft pick James van Riemsdyk to Toronto an exchange for Defenseman Luke Schenn (brother of current Flyers forward Brayden Schenn) in hopes to build on what was expected to be a key defensive line-up. Big names like Zach Parise & Ryan Suter were offered big money to come to the City of Brotherly love but both chose to head west and sign with the Minnesota Wild each receiving 13-year contracts. After both Parise & Suter signed deals Holmgrem went after Nashville’s star defenseman & captain Shea Weber, putting in an offer sheet reportedly worth 14 years at over $100k. Just days before the deadline for Nashville to match, Flyers fans were left broken hearted when Nashville announced they matched the 14 year $100k contract for Weber. With Parise, Suter, & Weber locked into long-term deals, Holmgrem turned his focus to signing key players from the 2011-2012 season, Hartnell, Simmonds, Voracek all receiving multi-year deals. Holmgrem also signed 2012 first round, 20th overall forward Scott Laughton to an entry-level contract.
Flyers Captain, Chris Pronger has not dressed in a game since November 19,2011 due to ongoing symptoms from a concussion sustained in the beginning of the season. Since then the 37-year-old defenseman has had little to no improvement and future in the NHL and with the Flyers remains unknown. Holmgren stated, "As it relates to Chris, as much as anything else, I'm a glass-is-half-full kind of guy," Holmgren said. "I believe he's going to play. But I don't know. I don't have anything to back that up." On top of our Captain being down until further notice, 2 key defenseman are starting the season on the IR due to off-season injuries. 2011 Barry Ashbee winner, Andrej Mezaros injuring his Achilles tendon during off-season training in his hometown & is currently listed as out indefinitely. Andreas Lilja is starting the season on IR due to off-season hip surgery but is expected to play by December. With 3 big-named defenseman already starting the season on IR, Paul Holmgren got to work & re-signed Mark-Andre Bourdon to a contract extension. Bourdon is expected to start the season (if there is one with the big-club) along with Erik Gustafson & Brandon Manning possibly filling to void of our very apparent lack of veteran defenseman.
June 11,2012 many Flyers fans watched in dismay as several former players hoisted Lord Stanley as members of the Los Angeles Kings. Most notably of the players were former captain Mike Richards & Jeff Carter, both traded in 2011 to make room for Ilya Bryzgalov. Bryzgalov season in 11-12 was not one for fans to remember & left many of us wondering, was it worth giving up our future? Bryzgalov had glimpses of hope throughout the season but the team was hitting the golf course in early May & many blaming goaltending. Any Flyers fan knows that goaltending has been an issue with the organization for years but all hoped Bryzgalov’s 9 year, $51 million contract was going to be the answer. When the 2012-2013 season starts all eyes will be on Bryzgalov to redeem himself and help the city of brotherly love see that the 2011 trade of Richards & Carter was worth it.

Oct. 11 vs. Boston Bruins: The Flyers open up against the Bruins for the second straight season, though this one is at home. The Flyers spoiled the Bruins’ championship celebration by winning last year’s season opener, 2-1, in Beantown. However, they lost their three remaining games against Boston, including two during shootouts. The Flyers open the season by playing 13 of 19 games at home.
Oct. 27 vs. Toronto Maple Leafs: The Flyers swept the Maple Leafs in the season series last season, continuing a dominant run against Toronto. Dating back to midway through the 2008-09 season, the Flyers have won 12 of their last 15 games against the Leafs. Former Flyer James van Riemsdyk will be making his first trip to Philadelphia since being traded for Luke Schenn.
Nov. 1 vs. New Jersey Devils: The Devils return to the Wells Fargo Center for the first time since eliminating the Flyers in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Either way, the Flyers will play three home games against the Devils before finishing the season series with three in Newark.
Nov. 10 vs. Carolina Panthers: The Flyers conclude a home-and-home series with the Hurricanes, who could boast as many as three Staal brothers. Newly-acquired Jordan Staal and his brother Eric are certain to create much fanfare, but if the ‘Canes opt to call up Jared Staal from their minor league system, this might turn into quite the family affair.
Jan. 3 @ Los Angeles Kings: The Kings don’t make a trip to Philadelphia this season, so this marks the only opportunity for fans to watch the Flyers take on the reigning Stanley Cup champions, affectionately dubbed “Flyers West.” This will mark Jeff Carter’s first appearance against his former team, as he was injured when Columbus came to Philadelphia last season. He’s again playing with Mike Richards, who registered an assist during his return to Philadelphia last year.
Jan. 6 @ Vancouver Canucks: The Flyers conclude a season-long, eight-game road trip against the Canucks, who won the President’s Trophy last season but bowed out in the playoffs’ first round. This will be the only time the Flyers see the heralded Sedin twins during the regular season. During last season’s contest, both Henrik and Daniel Sedin tallied goals.
Feb. 2 vs. Detroit: The Red Wings will have a different feel to them when they make their lone trip to Philadelphia. For the first time since the 1991-92 season, they’ll be without longtime defensive stalwart Nicklas Lidstrom, who retired this offseason. That leaves Tomas Holmstrom as the lone Red Wing remaining from the team that dispatched the Flyers in the 1997 Stanley Cup Finals, though he is reportedly considering retirement.
Feb.9 vs. Edmonton Oilers: The Oilers have struggled through the last few NHL seasons, but their woes have landed them the No. 1 pick in the last three NHL Entry Drafts. Each of those players – Taylor Hall, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Nail Yakupov – could be on display in this game. The Oilers are making their first trip to Philly since the 2010-11 season.
March 24 @ Pittsburgh Penguins: The Flyers unofficially commence the season’s homestretch with a home-and-home against their archrivals. From this point, they play 11 games in 21 days, including one stretch in which they play three times in four days. Eight of those games are against teams that qualified for the playoffs last season.
April 13 vs. N.Y. Rangers: The Rangers baffled the Flyers throughout all of last season, sweeping the season series behind Vezina Trophy winner Henrik Lundqvist, who posted a meager 1.83 goals against average. The Flyers hope to have solved the Rangers by the season finale, which always holds the potential to have some type of playoff implications. Who will forget the Flyers’ shootout victory over the Rangers on the final day to clinch a spot in the playoffs?
