2014-15 Golden State Warriors preview

The Golden State Warriors are Loveless entering this season. After a summer full of Kevin Love-to-Golden State rumors, the Warriors look pretty much the same as last year. The dreams of trading for Minnesota’s All-Star power forward fell crashing down when Lebron and the Cavs came calling. Golden State fans are now hoping that Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, and their new blistering style of play can take the Warriors further into the playoffs in 2015.

Last year was a good one for the "Splash Brothers" and company. Curry and Thompson led the Warriors to a 51-31 record. They grabbed a second-place finish in the Pacific Division, and the sixth seed in the playoffs. But they were paired with the Los Angeles Clippers, winner of the Pacific. They pushed the Clippers to seven games, before succumbing at the Staples Center.

But their loss to the Clippers proved to be the death knell for head coach Mark Jackson. Despite the team’s success during Jackson’s tenure, the front office seemed to differ with him on everything from style-of-play, to player rotations, to issues with his assistants. New coach Steve Kerr has the potential to bandage up many of those issues. He’s expected to install a wide-open offense similar to that run during his time as General Manager in Phoenix. His personnel acumen and management expertise were on full display during his time with the Suns.

Look for Kerr to free up Curry and Thompson more, while making use of his offensively gifted bigs, Andrew Bogut and David Lee. Both run the floor well, and have above-average ball skills. They will be a perfect fit for Kerr’s offense. So will free agent Leandro Barbosa, who had some of his best years for the Kerr-era Suns. Toss in forwards Harrison Barnes and Draymond Green, and there’s no reason to worry about points in Oracle Arena.

With the hiring of Kerr, Golden State appears to be committing to an all-out assault on the bucket. While Jackson formed the Warriors into a top-10 defense, Kerr will look to set them loose, as the team makes yet another run at the NBA finals in the crowded Western Conference.
